Every year in the end of April, 4th and 5th graders from Columbia Public Schools take over the Bond Life Sciences Building at the University of Missouri to participate in the ShowMe Nature GK-12 Annual Research Symposium.
Students present posters they have created based on research conducted in collaboration with their teachers and GK-12 Fellows. From writing the research proposal to addressing reviewers’ concerns and implementing projects funded through our “Big Bang for Small Bucks” Mini-Grant Program students become scientists. By putting the students in the driver’s seat, mini-grant projects “flip” the elementary school classroom and produce communities of practice.
Follow the links below to take a look at the genuine research being pursued in ShowMe Nature classrooms and extended in select classrooms through a sister program, 2BGreen, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency.
